Ready For Your First Dance?

It’s Time To Party!

But this week, we wanted to change things up a little bit and discuss some really important areas of wedding planning. We’re talking about picking music for one of the most special moments of your wedding reception.

While music selection for your ceremony and reception is very important, picking your First Dance song is huge and takes a little thought.

Here are some of this year’s most popular song choices and helpful tips to help you make the appropriate choices for your upcoming Tampa Bay wedding.

Picking A Song For Your First Dance

The words “first dance” can excite or freak you out.

Many brides-to-be have already thought about their first dance and probably a song choice, too – grooms, not so much.

So, this is absolutely an area for discussion. You might want to consider your dancing abilities and then consider a song that is meaningful to the two of you. Be sure to look beyond the words and consider the song’s tempo.

Most wedding entertainers recommend a song between one and two minutes long —unless you have choreographed a dance to a specific song.

A Choreographed First Dance?

Yes, it’s absolutely something to think about! Truthfully, if you look back to your Junior High School dance, you’ll see the “Hug and Sway.”

For many couples, this movement, pained with the “Box Step,” where you move in a square, is sufficient. Keep in mind that this is a moment that gives you some of the most incredible wedding photos of you as a couple.

So, slow and loving, create the perfect photo op.

However, we love seeing couples who choose to go a few steps further and maybe take a few dance lessons.

Have no fear; some dance studios across Tampa Bay offer classes for engaged couples. So, you’ll likely feel less self-conscious with few private lessons or in a small group with other couples overcoming their fears.

Are You Classic or Modern

Picking the right song for your first dance is HUGE. You want something that holds special meaning for the two of you!

Here are some of this year’s most popular wedding First Dance songs. They are divided into Classic and Modern—which one are you?

Classic

  • At Last – Etta James
  • Have I Told You Lately – Van Morrison
  • The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra
  • I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You – Elvis Presley
  • Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton

Modern

  • Marry Me – Train
  • Hold My Hand – Lay Gaga
  • Pointless – Lewis Capaldi
  • God Gave Me You – Blake Shelton
  • Say You Won’t Let Go – James Arthur
