The Fallen Soldier Table

It’s been a while since our Special Moments Event Planning team has featured a Fallen Soldier Table.  

Occasionally, clients request them, and they’re the perfect way to remember a loved one at your wedding.

On this Memorial Day Weekend, it was a great reminder for our couples and other wedding professionals.

 

What Is A Fallen Soldier Table?

A fallen soldier table, also known as a fallen comrade table or a POW/MIA table, is a ceremony and memorial that honors fallen, missing, or imprisoned military personnel. It’s a way to remember and honor those who did not come home. 

While these are most often set in military dining halls during official military functions, they can also serve as touching remembrances at a wedding reception.

 

 

Key Features and Symbolism

• The round table is designed to demonstrate our enduring concern for our missing service members.
• The crisp white tablecloth symbolizes the purity of their motives as they answer the call to serve.
• The chair is empty: the seat that remains unclaimed at the table.
• The glass is inverted, symbolizing their inability to share a toast.
• The single red rose displayed in a vase reminds us of the lives of these Americans and their loved ones and friends who keep their faith while seeking answers.
• The red ribbon symbolizes our continued determination to account for those who are missing.
• A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate: captured and missing in a foreign land.
• A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears of our missing and their families, who long for answers after decades of uncertainty.
• The lit candle reflects our hope for their return.
• The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain us and those who have been lost from our country.
