What’s a Master Wedding Planner?

This week, our Special Moments Event Planning team is tackling a question we sometimes hear from couples and some local wedding vendors.

It’s an important question as our fearless leader and Lead Dream Maker, Tammy Waterman, holds this prestigious designation. 

Master Wedding Planner, or MWP, as it’s often abbreviated, is the highest designation awarded to Association of Bridal Consultants members.

 

 

The Association of Bridal Consultants

The Association of Bridal Consultants was established in 1955 – yes, you read that right, The Association of Bridal Consultants is turning 80 years old!

 

 

This is the association’s Mission Statement.

 

Our mission is to continue our long history of delivering quality education and training to the wedding and event industry, provide revenue-generating opportunities to our members, recognize those who complete our advanced accreditation programs, and facilitate networking events to foster professional alliances while creating an environment where we require our members to treat all colleagues, suppliers, and clients with fairness, respect, and honesty.

 

The Association of Bridal Consultants has members worldwide, with the most significant numbers in North and South America, Europe, and Japan.

 

What Do You Have To Do To Become a Master Wedding Planner?

To achieve this honor, all Masters have had to be continuously educated, educate others, volunteer in their community and the wedding industry, and sit before a jury of their peers to be judged. A unanimous decision must then be made.

The association has a point system where members gain points for formal education, home-study course training, and the member’s real-world experience and industry contributions. To submit for Master Wedding Planner, you must have earned 125 or more points.

Tammy has been a member in good standing since beginning Special Moments Event Planning in 2004. She received her Master Wedding Planner designation in 2012.

 

 

 

How Many Master Wedding Planners Are There?

There are currently 42 Master Wedding Planners worldwide, with an additional nine Emeritus (retired) members.

Each year, any member in good standing, with the appropriate documentation, may submit their work for review.

In addition to her designation as Master Wedding Planner, Tammy was also awarded the association’s Heart Award for passion and excellence in 2011. She’s one of only twenty-four members to have received this award.

 

 

She currently serves as the association’s Florida State Manager and has facilitated the association’s Tampa Bay Local Networking Group for over a decade.

She works tirelessly to provide educational and networking opportunities for members in the Tampa Bay Area and across the state.
